This 953-student elementary school is located on a 9.6-acre site at the southeast corner of the campus of the University of South Florida, immediately across Fowler Avenue from the Hillsborough County Museum of Science and Industry. It represents the collaborative efforts of the Hillsborough County Public Schools, the University and the Museum to provide a unique learning environment for elementary students, university students, parents, teachers, professional staff, and the community at large within the context of a local neighborhood school. It will be the purpose of this school to serve as a curriculum research and development facility for the implementation and testing of promising and innovative instruction methodology and of alternative school organization. Development of such innovative curricula will be undertaken by the College of Education of the University of South Florida in collaboration with and under the direction of the School Board of Hillsborough County.
